Why won't MS just stop making guesses and release dates and just say we will release it when it's finished and ready no matter how long it takes? I am thinking the way they are going now for Vista, when they release it it still won't really be ready. It seems like they're just releasing it this year to RTM if they do, because they just want more $. It won't be ready I think. Not even close.I mean shoot, they don't have any competition for windows so just fix it and make it awesome before they release it.
Like an example is sports games. They are released once a year, not when they're done and ready. I know this is because of the sport season itself, but I just wish they'd all release when ready like some other non sport games. Same for the Windows OS.

Why not just release vista when it's ready
Hmm, maybe this will help reassure that: CRN: In terms of the timeline for Vista, you were quoted by the foreign press as allowing that it might slip into February. What are the factors that could lead to that possibility? BALLMER: All I said anywhere is quality, quality, quality, quality, quality. The betas are just out: Quality, quality. I get an e-mail from a customer who says, 'I'm worried about the following problem with the beta.' That's what betas are about. I say, 'Don't worry. Quality, quality. We're just working on quality.'
We will ship quality, security, quality. The features set is all there. Now it's all about performance, quality, quality. If I get an e-mail, 'Should I worry about what you're going to ship if you're forced to ship on blah blah blah?', I say, 'Quality.'

I am very tempted to answer that question, but I wont!

Because MS needs to give system builders hard info for their planning purposes.

Actually, I think the OEMs are getting a lot of info from Microsoft, since they are the ones who suggested that Microsoft delay the release for consumers until next year. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Its vastly improved from earlier beta versions, largely because of
people testing it and telling MS whats wrong. As far as I am concerned I need to test this as long as possible before installing it on new PCs and I need to know all the answers before users start asking silly questions. MS can release it in 2009 for me the longer the better.
As for release dates whatever Balmer and co say its a very complex legal situation this side of the pond with the EU seemingly out to get MS, which needs to be taken into account. Legalwise its not so good in the US ether with everybody whining about patent theft and the like. I think this stuff is more significant than MS are willing to admit
